Les Œuvres, contenans l'Histoire de son temps, l'Espérance, le Curial, le Quadrilogue, & autres pièces. Paris, Pierre Le Mur, 1617. In-4, midnight blue morocco, broad lace of gilt fillets and fleurons, ornate spine, inner lace, edges speckled (Levasseur jeune). Last early edition of the works of Alain Chartier, brought to light by André Du Chesne (1584-1640), historian and scholar from Chinon. It is, according to Brunet, "preferable to all the previous ones for the accuracy of the text, but the Demandes d'amour and the Débat du gras et du megre have been excluded." A numismatic figure is printed on a full page p. 835. Pleasant copy in a luxurious early 19th century lace binding. Minor foxing. Brunet, I, 1813.

The Histoire de Charles VII, on pages 1 to 301, is no longer attributed to Alain Chartier, but to Gilles Bouvier dit Berry. A magnificent copy in a superb later but antique full vellum binding. The boards are richly decorated with gilt filleting and wide lacework of finely worked gilt motifs. Spine with 5 false nerves, same gilded motifs decorating the boxes and red morocco title-piece, title and author in gilded lettering, decoration of same gilded motifs on the purple-painted edges, gilded laces and vellum borders on the inside covers, purple cloth endpapers with gilded crosses. Fresh interior, a few discreet old dampstains, trimmed copy a little short. Contains 4 fine engraved medallions, lamp-ends, lettering and headbands. A superb copy of this rare work in its finest edition. Fort in-4, 868pp. Provenance: L. Chazal with ex libris with lion and motto "Robur et Solatium" and "Quiar Nominor Leo".
