BERNARDINO DE BUSTI.

Rosarium sermonum predicabilium ad faciliorem predicantium commoditatem novissime compilatum. Haguenau, Heinrich Gran for Johann Rynmann, 1500. 2 volumes in one folio, brown calf on bevelled wood, double framed with cold fillets, central rectangle sown with diamond-shaped fleurons and triple oblique fillets forming a trellis, spine decorated with fillets and small fleurons, smooth edges (Binding of the time). Second edition of this voluminous collection of sermons by the Milanese preacher and theologian Bernardino de Busti (1450-1513). It is the first edition of the work published in folio format, the Venetian original given two years earlier by Giorgio Arrivabene being in-4. It consists of two volumes, 250 and 366 pages, printed on two columns in Gothic script. Sumptuous and rare Alsatian incunabulum printed by Heinrich Gran, the first typographer of Haguenau. A burgher of the city of Haguenau as early as 1489 - the year in which he produced his first dated printing, the Cornutus de Garlande -, Heinrich Gran subsequently often worked for the Augsburg bookseller Johann Rynmann, but also for Johann Knobloch of Strasbourg, Konrad Hist of Speyer, and Franz Birckmann of Cologne. Wilhelm Seltz succeeded him around 1527. The text is ornamented throughout with initials painted in blue and red. Significant worm work affecting the text on the last fifty leaves, repairs to the margins of a few leaves, wetness at the head of the first few leaves then scattered. Without the 2 blank pages of the second part; pages cc4-cc7 of the first part are bound in the cc book of the second part. Spine and bottom board completely rebound, spine faded, clasps missing.
