[De consideratione]. Bernardus ad Eugenium papam. S.l.n.d. [Paris, Pierre Levet, ca. 1495]. In-8 of [56] ff, jansenist red morocco, roulette on the edges, inner lace, smooth edges (modern binding). Very rare Parisian incunabulum attributed to the printer Pierre Levet. The ISTC lists nine copies, of which only three were in France: at the Mazarine (incomplete), Lyon and Valognes. Printed in gothic script with 31 lines. This edition comprises [56] ff. signed a-g8 (Polain describes a variant in [58] ff. with a g10 quire). In the treatise De consideratione, composed around 1150, Bernard of Clairvaux addresses advice to Pope Eugene III for his sanctification and for the moral reform of the Roman clergy. A copy rubricated in yellow and decorated with four handwritten watermarked lettering in red and blue. A beautiful and well preserved copy.
