Description

Large walnut veneered FLAT DESKTOP opening in the belt with three drawers. The other side has three simulated drawers. The top is rectangular and darkened with a coated fabric (worn) and surrounded by a moulding with large palmette spandrels. Rich decoration of bronzes such as: appliques with trophies of weapons on the sides, falls in palmette, entrances of locks with confronted phytomorphic sirens maintaining a fire, framings of the drawers with friezes. It rests on four sheath feet topped by a sphinx bust with outstretched wings and finished by draped feet, the latter elements themselves in bronze. Return from Egypt style, late 19th-early 20th century. Height 77.5, length 194, depth 91 cm. (Insolate, small accidents). An identical desk presented at auction in 2014 (De Baecque et Associés) came, according to family tradition, from the Villa Cyrnos in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, property of the Empress Eugénie.
