SWATCH. Collection 700th anniversary Swiss Confederation 1921-1991. Commemorative edition of four watches, limited and numbered for the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation. The watches are new, never used. They come with the original methacrylate box but do not have the original cardboard box. Provenance: Private collection of Swatch watches made in the 90s. All watches are unworn. The quartz watches had their batteries removed when they were purchased, to prevent them from wearing out. All of them need a new battery. The automatics are in running condition. All of them keep the original case. Except for a few that are bagged. The cases show some signs of wear. The watches are a design of four Swiss artists: Fläck GZ 117 (Niklaus Troxler); Test GZ 118 (Silvie & Cherif Defraoui); 360 Rosso su Blackout GZ 119 (Felice Varini); Wheel Animal GZ 120 (Not Vital). Swatch is a Swiss watch brand founded in 1983 by Nicolas Hayek. The Swatch product line was developed in response to the "quartz crisis" of the 1970s and 1980s, in which digital watches made in Asia competed against traditional mechanical watches made in Europe. Swatch began its development in the early 1980s, under the direction of Ernst Thomke, along with a small team of engineers, who sought to create a line of fashion watches with a complete brand identity and a highly developed marketing concept. The first collection of twelve Swatch models was presented on March 1, 1983 in Zürich, Switzerland which achieved great popularity. The brand gradually diversified, bringing out fashion watches for every season, special series, metallic watches (the "Irony" series), diving watches (the "Scuba" series), slim and flat-bodied watches (the "Skin" family) and even a watch that can be connected to the Internet (the "Papparazzi" series). It also has luxury watches for collectors with diamond or precious metal details, demonstrating the brand's wide diversity.
