Olivier DEGORCE "INTENTIONAL STILL LIFE (fraise bleue)" 2009
The still life series began in 2009, following a dream in which the artist painted on fresh fruit. If the dream's law is to displace reality, the artist takes hold of this reality, transforms it and, finally, makes the fruit inedible. The act is sacrilegious: who is he to dare upset the work of nature and thus accelerate its demise? Acting as a demiurge, he adorns the fruit with the trappings of artifice and introduces it into a life situated on the side of the imaginary. "This is not a strawberry", Magritte would have said. From now on, it belongs to the world of the image.
