Description
The Nativity. Xylography matrix. Fruitwood engraved on wirewood. The scene is split in two by a column. On one side the Virgin in prayer and on the other side Joseph contemplative and the Child Jesus. Northern France, around 1500. H.12,5 W.8 D.2,2 cm. Our matrix is to be put in relation with the Book of hours to the use of Paris, preserved in the treasure of the cathedral Saint Pierre of Beauvais and printed in 1507 by Simon Vostre (Folio 50).
