Founded at the beginning of the 10th century by the Soninke, Djenne, a religious town whose human occupation dates back to 250 BC, was the centre of a civilisation that is now considered to be one of the oldest in Africa. Provenance: collection of Dr Smitz, Belgium. A certificate from M Humblet accompanies this work.
