Property from an Important Private Collection Anthology of poetry, signed Muhammad Husayn al-Tabrizi, Persia, 16/17th century, Persian manuscript on coloured and marbled paper, 30 leaves plus 4 fly-leaves, 9 lines to the page, written in black nasta’liq, ruled in black, gold and blue, f.1b with a polychrome and gold heading, titles in gold or blue within cartouches decorated with golden scrolls, in an olive green binding decorated with a central dark red panel with a gilt flower, text panel 11 x 6cm.; leaf 17 x 11cm. The scribe of this volume could be Muhammad Husayn al-Tabrizi (d.1577), a celebrated calligrapher at the court of Shah Isma’il II (r.1576-78); None of his recorded works are dated (Mehdi Bayani, Ahval va Asar-e Khosh-Nevisan, Vol. III, Tehran, 1348 sh, pp. 680-83). Condition report: in good condition, minor stains and smudges which do not affect legibility of the text, some losses to the illumination, minor losses to the binding, as viewed.
