IRAN, IL-KHANID ART, SULTANABAD GROUP, END OF 13th-14th CENTURY A siliceous ceramic bowl with a scalloped rim, on a small heel, decorated with two hares facing each other on a vegetal background, painted in cobalt blue, turquoise and black under a colourless glaze. Fringe of chevrons and discs on the rim. Strong restorations. A SULTANABAD POTTERY SMALL FOOTED BOWL, PERSIA, ILKHANID, 13TH/14TH CENTURY. H: 5.5 cm - Ø: 16 cm This decoration of animals on a foliate background is characteristic of the so-called Sultanabad group, probably produced in Kashan towards the end of the 13th-14th centuries. The scalloped shape of the dish is also found on a piece from the same period in the Kuwait Museum (Oliver Watson, Ceramics from Islamic Lands, the al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait National Museum, Thames & Hudson, London, 2004, cat. Q.22, p. 392). A 'Sultanabad' dish with the same decoration of two hares is preserved in the Sarikhani Collection (Oliver Watson, Ceramics of Iran, Islamic Pottery fom the Sarikhani Collection, Yale University Press, 2020, cat.17, p. 334).
