GRANDE COUPE EN CÉRAMIQUE À L’INSCRIPTION COUFIQUE RAYONNANTE
EASTERN IRAN, NICHAPOUR, SAMANID ART, 10th CENTURY Large bowl with flared truncated cone-shaped sides, on a flat base, made of clay ceramic decorated with brown slip on beige slip, decorated with a stylised "yin and yang" motif in the centre, and on the sides of a band continuously inscribed with an Arabic inscription in Kufic, with long stems radiating towards the middle. A LARGE KUFIC CALLIGRAPHIC POTTERY BOWL, EASTERN PERSIA, SAMANID, 10TH CENTURY. H: 12 cm - Ø: 37.5 cm A similar large bowl, inscribed with a proverb in kufic script with long radiating stems, is in the British Museum, London (inv. no. 1958,1218.1). Expert: L.S. Fractures and restorations and some blocking, piece apparently complete, many repaints inside.
