BOL À DÉCOR ROUGE ET BRUN

EASTERN IRAN OR CENTRAL ASIA, NICHAPOUR OR SAMARCANDE, SAMANID ART, 10th CENTURY Bowl with flared truncated cone-shaped sides, on a flat base, made of clay ceramic decorated with brick-red and brown slip on a beige slip, decorated with two large interlocking palmettes forming two large fleurons connected by a median line with two dots. Two thin bands mark the rim. Traces of a tripod pernet inside. A RARE BICHROME POTTERY BOWL, NISHAPUR OR SAMARQAND, SAMANID, XTH CENTURY. H: 6.5 cm - Ø: 21 cm A bowl with a pouring spout with an almost identical decoration of a two-coloured fleuron formed of elaborate palmettes is preserved in the Kuwait Museum (Oliver Watson, Ceramics from Islamic Lands, the al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait National Museum, Thames & Hudson, London, 2004, cat. Gb.4, p. 222). A large dish from the Keir Collection also shows the same decoration (Ernst J. Grube, Islamic Pottery of the Eighth to the Fifteenth Century in the Keir Collection, Faber and Faber, London, 1976, no. 59, p. 89). Expert: L.S.
