TURKEY, OTTOMAN ART, late 18th-early 19th CENTURY Turkish manuscript on beige and bistre paper, 41 folios plus 4 blank leaves, 29 lines per page, text in black and red ink, some pages with tables and diagonal text at the beginning of the text. Hardcover binding covered with green embossed paper. H: 21.3 x W: 13.5 cm This astrology manual opens with numerous tables and charts giving information such as the names of the zodiac signs in different languages (Arabic, Persian, Turkish, French, Ancient Greek and Greek), as well as the names of the months in these languages, but also different calendars (among others the Coptic, Jalali and ancient Persian calendars). Then there are various tables with instructions for drawing calendars, including a solar calendar according to Christian (milad) and Muslim (hijri) dates. This manual also contains a table of world historical events, starting from the time of Adam to the author's time, i.e. 1181 AH/1768. This information is followed by astrological texts on earthquakes, fires and other auspicious and inauspicious events according to astrological movements, as well as on talismans. Expert: L.S.
