VASQUE DE SERVICE A CAFÉ (SITIL) EN CUIVRE DORÉ (TOMBAK)

TURKEY, OTTOMAN ART, LATE 18th-19th CENTURY Receptacle in the form of a large circular bowl with a flat base on a high pedestal and openwork rim, made of gilded copper (tombâq), with incised decoration of seven bunches of strawberries and flowers, and floral stems on the foot. Three foliated S-rings support three twisted suspension chains, held by a leaf-shaped attachment with eight petals and an articulated hook. A GILT-COPPER TOMBAK BOWL (SITIL), OTTOMAN, TURKEY, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY. Diameter: 22.2 cm; bowl height: 13.5 cm; total height: 69 cm. A "sitil" is a bowl with which one carried a coffee pot under the Ottomans. See the exhibition catalogue Topkapi à Versailles.
