LAMPE DE SUSPENSION EN ARGENT

GREECE, OTTOMAN ART, DATED 1804 A silver bulbous and ringed receptacle with openwork, chased and embossed decoration. The whole is decorated with floral garlands. The lamp is suspended by three chains fixed by three attachments in the shape of a face. The chains are held at the top by a six-petal leaf-shaped socket. Hallmark of the period of Sultan Selim III (1789-1807). Control mark. Near the upper rim, an inscription in Greek is stamped and dated. A SILVER LAMP, OTTOMAN, GREECE, 1804. The inscription reads: "Aphieroma tso megalo nhce/pach/tsivanison/christso/ 1804" (Homage to the Great Island [in Greek, the Great Island refers to the island of Cyprus] / ?/ Tsivanison/Christ ?/ 1804).
