Pierre DUVAL LE CAMUS (Lisieux, 1790 - Saint-Cloud, 1854). Portrait of Count Léon Nau de Maupassant represented in front of the city of Saumur. Oil on canvas signed lower right (lined). Height : 41 cm 41 cm - Width : 33 cm Original gilded frame. Our painting will be added to the catalogue raisonné of the artist by Mrs Jessica Volet. Initially a pupil of Claude Gautherot, Pierre Duval le Camus then joined Jacques_x0002_Louis David's studio in 1808. Like his master, he specialized in the portrait genre. Every year, he participates in the Salon where he is congratulated for this genre that he treats in small format. His recognition is such that he counts among his clients the duchess of Berry. In a refined treatment, the painter fixes here the portrait of Léon Nau de Maupassant, owner of the castle of Clermont au Cellier in front of his native saumurois. In 2010, the Musée des Avelines devoted a retrospective to this painter who was mayor of Saint-Cloud from 1853 to 1854.
