Description

[Africa] The South Star/[Greece] The Burning Archipelago by Jules Verne. Illustrations by Benett. Paris, Bibliothèque d'Éducation et de Récréation, J. Hetzel Éditeur, sd (1896 for the hardback). Large double in-8°. Publisher's full polychrome percaline boards "au globe doré" of the 1st type. Engel bookbinder. Edges gilt. Anthracite endpapers. Printed by Gauthier-Villars. Catalogue "CH" for 1884-1885. Illustrated first editions. A sublime copy in near new condition. Very exceptional, especially for this title. Let us recall that the "golden globe" binding of the 1st type is particularly fragile and to find a copy in this condition is, let us say it, almost impossible! It is also good to recall that some double titles under their polychrome clothes are of a great rarity. This is the case of this one which competes for the first place with Sens Dessus Dessous, L'École des Robinsons and Les Indes Noires.
