It was produced in 4 different series, but for 28 years it managed to win the hearts of all enthusiasts. In order to choose the name, a public competition was held, with an example of the new car as a prize. The name Duetto won, but the appellative was used only for the first 190 examples, because of the homonymy with a famous snack of the time that obtained the exclusive use of the name. In spite of this, the name remained so ingrained in the language of enthusiasts that all subsequent versions of this model were improperly identified as Duetto. The third series of the Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider was called the Aerodinamica and was produced from 1983. The bodywork underwent a substantial retouching of the lines. The bumpers became more enveloping and the "truncated tail", a feature inherited from the second series, the rear lights were also modified and made larger and a black spoiler in synthetic material was applied. In 1986 a new restyling version of the 2000 carburettor car was put on the market, called Quadrifoglio Verde, even if the power was unchanged and the engine was the classic 128 HP AR00515. The changes in the bodywork, such as the front and rear bumpers that incorporated marked aerodynamic beams, of common design with the side sills (miniskirts), and the new 15-inch alloy wheels made it immediately distinguishable. On the inside, this more aggressive version presented itself with more enveloping seats in lead grey with red stitching, as well as the red carpet on the floor. On the outside the soft rubber appendages already present on the tail were maintained; also the rear-view mirrors were the new candelabra, in black plastic. The Quadrifoglio Verde was produced from 1986 to 1989 in 2,692 examples in only two colours: Rosso Alfa and Grigio Metallizzato. On the models destined for the US market, the Quadrifoglio Verde was equipped with electronic fuel injection and was also available in other colours such as pastel black. The Spider Quadrifoglio Verde represents the maximum expression of the Spider in the 80's, with many details that anticipate the future Fourth Series. The magnificent example we are offering at auction was first registered in 1987 and has always kept the same number plate afterwards. The car is powered by a 2,000 cc engine with 128hp, 5-speed manual transmission and is presented in its elegant Alfa Red color (original AR 530) and its fine gray leather interior with red stitching. The bodywork has undergone a veil of paint (original) on the outside, while the interior is perfectly preserved, the steering wheel has been replaced with one of greater value (its original steering wheel is still provided with the car). The engine has never been restored and has only performed all scheduled maintenance and runs smooth as a clock. The car has traveled only 80,800 km in 34 years and is equipped with its original license plates (1987), all its original documentation (owner's manuals, etc. ...) and is enrolled in the historical register of the ASI. The car will be auctioned at Milano AutoClassica 2021 in incredible conditions.
