GRANDE OINOCHOE APULA A FIGURE ROSSEDATAZIONE: ultimo quarto IV sec. A. C.MATERIA E TECNICA: argil

LARGE APULIAN RED-FIGURE OINOCHOE DATE: last quarter IV sec. BC. C. MATERIAL AND TECHNIQUE: chamois clay, shiny black paint, white, yellow and purple paint, orange-red colouring, modelled by fast lathe and mould. Three-lobed mouth pronounced by two apicatures with lip turned upside down on the outside and fluted, high neck with concave profile, distinguished by a slight groove at the base of the oval body, ribbon handle with four ribs, surmounting, set vertically from the lip to the shoulder; fluted foot ADDITIONAL DECORATION: entirely varnished in black; on the lip a wave meander repeated on the neck and followed by a false berry, on the shoulder a theory of rosettes, under the figurative scene right-hand meander; under the handle a large double palmette opened like a fan between whirls, flanked at the top by further two palmettes, volutes and inflorescences, the edge of the foot is spared; at the upper and lower attachment of the handle a plastic head. DECORATION: a Nike standing right on a quadriga launches the horses at a gallop and is preceded by another Nike in flight to the right and behind with outstretched wings and a crown in his right hand.
