SKYPHOS IN THE STYLE OF GNATHIA
DATE: IV-III sec. a.. C.
MATERIAL AND TECHNIQUE: pinkish figulina clay, chamois mottling, shiny black paint, white and paonazzo sub-paintings, engraved details; modelled by fast lathe.
Slightly everted rounded lip, truncated cone-shaped bowl, strongly elongated towards the bottom, ring foot, ribbon handles set obliquely under the rim.
DECORATION: entirely painted with the exception of the lower part; under the rim a stylized ionic kyma followed by a tremolo motif and a row of dots; a wide band with vine-shoots, tendrils and bunches of grapes follows.
PRODUCTION: apulian ceramics in the style of Gnathia.
STATE OF CONSERVATION: intact with the exception of an ansa.
