French school circa 1790 Profile of Michel Lepeletier de Saint Fargeau Polychrome wax H.10,5cm Louis-Michel Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau, born in 1760, came from a famous dynasty of magistrates at the Parliament of Paris, voted for the death of Louis XVI and was assassinated on the eve of the execution of the king on January 20, 1793. Considered as the "first martyr of the Revolution", his body was exposed in a grandiose setting at the Place Vendôme, before his funeral on January 24, 1793, and he was buried in the Pantheon.
