BERANGER Pierre-Jean de Set of 6 volumes of Songs Paris, chez les marchands de nouveautés/Baudouin frères/Perrotin, 1821-1833 In-12°. Set of 6 volumes in homogeneous binding. Half red morocco with small corners (Mercier, successor of Cuzin). Smooth gilt spine. Gilt fillet on the red marbled paper boards. One finds there : - Chansons, Paris, chez les marchands de nouveautés, 1821, 2 vols. Mostly original edition of the songs of 1821, with the inversion of Béranger's first name (J.P.) and the absence of an accent on his name in T.II; - Chansons nouvelles, Paris, chez les marchands de nouveautés, 1825, 1 volume. Original edition without the boxes expurgating Béranger's text (53 new songs); - Chansons inédites, Paris, Baudouin frères, 1828, 1 vol. Original edition containing 34 unpublished songs; - Chansons nouvelles et dernières, Paris, Perrotin, 1833, 1 vol. First edition of these songs dedicated to Lucien Bonaparte which serve as a complement to the 1828 and 1829 editions; finally, the bibliophile who formed this collection in homogeneous binding added the Brussels counterfeit Chansons (Bruxelles, Tarlier, 1829) of political and erotic songs published the same year as the very rare Parisian edition. Reunion of practically all of Béranger's songs in their original editions except those contained in the rare 1st edition of 1816 (see previous lot). Provenance: Paul Villeboeuf Library (ex-libris + gold-stamped numeral). Superb set, very fresh, without foxing and finely bound.
