Preceded by an essay on wood engraving Paris, Typographie de Firmin Didot Frères et Fils et cie, 1859-60, 2 vols. Large in-8°. Publisher's full blue cloth. Spine and boards decorated in black and gold. Reprint and first French edition of this famous collection by Vecellio. The first part presents Italian costumes and views of Venice (234 engravings); the second, those of other peoples of Europe, Asia and Africa (279 engravings). A total of 513 woodcuts with frames after Vecellio by Seguin and Huyot, framed by Catenacci and Fellmann. Copy according to the description of the bibliographers (see Colas, n° 2986). Contrary to what is indicated on the title, this work does not contain the essay on woodcutting which was published separately in 1863 in 1 vol. A very nice and fresh copy in its well preserved contemporary binding.
