Murdered by a French Revolutionary in London.- Moore (George, manufacturer of soda water, of Hoxton and Warren Street, London, murdered by Emmanuel Barthélmy, c. 1795-1855) & family. Commonplace Book of poetry and songs, manuscripts, mostly in George Moore's hand, some others in the hands of his brother Thomas and daughter Charlotte, William Moore and his wife Catherine (1 printed poem by Moore), c. 110pp., laid down on album ff., some folds, some browning, disbound, v.s. in a 4to album, 1805-55; and a copy of Marc Mullholland's, The Murderer of Warren Street, 2018, 4to & 8vo (2). ⁂ Manuscripts, including: "Christmas Carol... Moore"; "The Black-Heath Jaunts... by George Moore Junr 1831" etc. Emmanuel Barthélmy (1823-55), was a French revolutionary who participated in the June Days Uprising in Paris in 1848. Arrested and convicted he escaped to London where he came into contact with Karl Marx. In 1852 Barthélmy fought the last fatal duel in England. In 1854 he started work for George Moore, manufacturer of soda water and in 1855, after an argument, perhaps an attempt at blackmail, he shot and killed Moore and another, Charles Collard, a neighbouring green grocer and ex-policeman who tried to stop him escaping. Barthélmy was hanged publicly at Newgate on 22 January 1855.
