Africa. Toma mask (Democratic Republic of Congo). The Toma tribes of Guinea or Liberia live in the forests at high altitude. They are famous for their board masks used for the rites of the initiation society "Poro". Wood, metal, felt, cowrie shells, magic charge and important sacrificial patina. Old Toma mask of fetish type. We notice a significant sacrificial patina, present on the face as well as on the back of the mask. A magic charge and a cowrie shell are present inside the piece.
