GRACQ (Julien).

The Shape of a City. Paris, José Corti, 1985. In-12, paperback, uncut. First edition. One of 125 copies on Arjomari's rhapsody laid paper, the only large paper. This city that Julien Gracq evokes is Nantes, where he spent his boarding school years at the Lycée Clemenceau, between the ages of eleven and eighteen. "The Shape of a City tells of an arrival in a claustral world at the beginning, and towards the end it describes a departure into the fresh, empty streets of dawn, at once a farewell to the city and a promise of the future" (Bernhild Boie). Copy in mint condition. Attached is the Index of names cited in Julien Gracq's La Forme d'une ville, a booklet published by the Centre de recherche pour le développement culturel de Nantes, folded like a city map and intended to be inserted in the book.
