GRACQ (Julien).

A balcony in the forest. Paris, José Corti, 1958. In-12, midnight blue cobra, smooth spine decorated with an irregularly shaped black box mosaic title-piece, grey suede lining and end-papers, gilt edges, cover and spine, black box sleeve and case (A. Devauchelle). First edition. One of the 52 first copies on vellum of Rives. Autograph letter signed by Julien Gracq to Max-Philippe Delatte: [Un balcon en forêt] mais le farniente n'est pas garanti, et la forêt bouge comme celle de Dunsinane. A Parisian bookseller and publisher, Max-Philippe Delatte (1914-1989) was also president of the Société Anatole France. As for the hill of Dunsinane, in Scotland, it forms the setting for the last scenes of Macbeth. Sumptuous binding in night cobra signed Alain Devauchelle. From the Max-Philippe Delatte and Anatole Jakovsky libraries (2012, n°165). A choice copy in superb condition.
