Bindery of the time (joints damaged, rubbed and bestowed). MGG VI, 126. first edition of this groundbreaking work. - H. "had a harmonium built (cf. p. 485 f.), which made it possible to play music in almost completely pure tuning in various keys by means of multiple instrumentation of the individual notes. Remarkably, musical practice to this day has undergone the opposite development, using more and more dissonances. Regardless of this it remains Helmholtz' merit to have given the whole musical acoustics and physiology of hearing the exact foundations on which the newer acoustics could develop" (MGG). - Somewhat stained and browned, inner joints broken, front title torn in the bows. - Bookplate.
