With coloured lithographic, illustrated cover title and 6 chromolithographic plates in leporello form, each with 3 fold-out pictures. Ohlwd. (Best. and rubbed, corners partly damaged). Pressler ills. 147 - Extraordinarily rare picture book which brought the Wild West to Europe. The pictures united to a panorama show "dramatic scenes from the supposed life of Buffalo Bill (1846-1917), whose real name was William Frederick Cody. After the great success of Meggendorfer's 'International Circus', which had been published in the same constructive presentation in 1887, the Schreiber publishing house followed up with a treatment of this popular material, probably also in connection with Buffalo Bill's 'Wild West Show' with which Cody toured through Germany in the eighties of the 19th century" (Laub/Krahé, Spielbilderbücher 284, though only the facsimile of 1989). On the back cover a probably somewhat embellished biography of the hero with description of the scenes depicted. - Some marginal parts creased or with small missing parts (tail of the hit buffalo in image 1, ears of the foal in image 2, hand of the hit rider in image 3, muzzle and head of the two horses on the left in image 4, backmost plate with loss at the upper corner), in places slightly fl. and slight marginal tears, some tears at the front.
