Second edition (EA 1588). - "Huldreich Frölich of Plauen, burgher of Basle where he died on February 3, 1610, gave these recuts of the Holbein Death Dance as illustrations of the Basle Death Dance painting and thus spread a confusion continuing till the latest times which from 1715 till 1796 Conrad Mechel promoted by reprinting those cuts of the GS etc. of 1576 under the same title again and again.... The confusion fastened by the fact that from the beginning pictures of the Basel public dance of death were mixed in.... - The Latin translation of the Basel Death Dance admitted by H. First edition - Rare publication on Lake Zurich, published posthumously in a small edition. - Main work somewhat tightly trimmed, partly browned, ink and dampstains in places, the plan with small marginal tear. - Secondary work mostly clean. - Provenance: Bookplate of the German Lutheran theologian Johann Konrad Feuerlein (1656-1718) on front pastedown. - 2 works in 1 volume. First work with coat of arms woodcut, 1 engraved plan, 62 woodcuts in the text and 1 printer's device at the end. Second work with folding copper title and engraved folding map. Contemporary vellum (hinge and spine cracked or with small damages, slightly rubbed, somewhat stained). The first work partly browned, in places ink or water stained, somewhat narrowly trimmed. Second work mostly clean.
