(Spotted and somewhat creased, missing the closing bands). This edition not in the BM and Adams. - Rare Venetian edition of Sadoletus' controversial commentary on the Epistle to the Romans, published the same year as the Lyons edition of S. Gryphius. Jacob Sadoletus (1477-1547) was, among other things, secretary to Pope Leo X and cardinal of the diocese of Carpentras (in Avignon). On the title the fine woodcut publisher's mark of M. Sessa: A cat surrounded by tendrils with a mouse in its mouth. - Somewhat water-margined and partly brownspotted.
