Red morocco, horizontal dark blue morocco listel with gilt fillet at the top and bottom of each cover, title in white letters within a frame of dark blue morocco ribbons and gilt in the centre of the first cover, large red morocco frame inside, decorated with long gilt fillets and bordered by a white morocco scroll, dark blue moiré silk lining and endpapers, double endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, case (Marot-Rodde). Edition of 350 numbered copies on Rives wove paper, illustrated by Edgar Degas with a frontispiece portrait of the author and 33 monotypes, 2 in the text, 6 out of the text and 25 full-page, all reproduced in etching in black and in colour by the painter and engraver Maurice Potin. The cover is dated 1938. 325 copies numbered in Arabic numerals (n° 232) . Superb copy bound by Marot-Rodde for the collector William Vincens Bouguereau, grandson of the painter William Bouguereau. A perfectly preserved copy. Provenance: William Vincens Bouguereau, with gilt bookplate in the frame of the first lining.
