Red half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed and decorated with cold fillets, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved, slipcase (D. H. Mercher). First edition of one of the masterpieces of French literature. A copy with the characteristics of the first edition, notably the "t" to Sénard at the head of the epistle, complete with the covers but without the spines and without the publisher's catalogue at the end of the first volume. It has been enriched with 7 original etchings drawn and engraved by Emile Boilvin (1845-1899), published by Lemerre in 1876. A very fine copy bound by Daniel Henri Mercher . Fine restorations to the covers.
