DONNAY (Maurice). Praxagora. Adaptation of L'Assemblée des femmes by Aristophanes. Paris : Les Centraux bibliophiles, 1932. - In-folio, 330 x 253 : (6 ff. 2 first blanks), 192 pp, (4 ff. 2 last blanks), blank cover. In leaves, filled cover, publisher's folder and slipcase. Remarkable edition printed at 130 numbered copies on japon double nacré (n° 63), illustrated with 64 compositions by Joseph KUHN-RÉGNIER (1873-1940), including a title vignette, a headband, 6 culs-de-lampe, 5 lettrines and 51 figures in the text, wood-engraved in colour by Pierre Bouchet. Kuhn-Régnier was a draughtsman, poster artist and illustrator, having collaborated to several magazines such as Fantasio, Lecture pour tous or Le Sourire. His style is not unlike that of George Barbier. The compositions that adorn this book were masterfully engraved by Pierre Bouchet, who collaborated on many occasions with François-Louis Schmied. A copy specially printed for Jean Curral, enriched with one of the 20 suites of 2 free plates on japan and 2 original unsigned watercolours for an initials and a vignette. Jacques Crépineau has added two colour plates by the same artist, from the edition he illustrated of the Complete Works of Hippocrates. A very well preserved copy.
