DELORME (Hugues). Quais et Trottoirs. Paris : for the Hundred Bibliophiles, 1898. - In-8, 251 x 162 : (2 ff.), 73 pp. (3 ff. last blank), 13 plates, illustrated cover. Red morocco, quintuple gilt fillet on the boards, spine gilt, gilt and cold fillets inside, gilt edges, cover preserved, slipcase (E. Carayon). Rare first edition, printed at only 115 copies on Arches wove paper. This is a collection of 13 poems in which the chansonnier Hugues Delorme (1868-1942) evokes the popular life of Paris during the Belle Époque, notably through certain small Parisian trades. These poems are titled as follows: Le Mégotier. - The Blind Singer. - The Camelot. - The Paulus in the open air. - Missed. - The Fashionable Romane. - The Brocante. - The Barber of the Bargees. - The Braseros. - The cork fisherman. - Anglers. - The Riverbank Man. - Old copyists. The edition is illustrated with numerous black compositions in the margins, in the header and in the bas-de-lampe, with two lithographs in sanguine on the cover and 13 original lithographs in colours outside the text, by the painter and caricaturist Oswald-Pierre Heidbrinck (1858-1914). These illustrations perfectly bring to life the picturesque characters, settings and atmospheres evoked by Delorme. A copy bearing the number 2, specially printed for the shipowner, writer and collector Paul Eudel, perfectly bound by Carayon.
