Antique edition considered as one of the most beautiful of Daniel Defoe's famous text. Undertaken by the publisher Charles Panckoucke and published by his widow in 1800, it is illustrated in the first edition with a portrait of the author engraved by Delvaux, 3 engraved titles adorned with a different vignette according to the volume, 18 out-of-text figures, 15 engraved by Delvaux after Stothart and 3 by Dupréel and Deligon after Duvivier, as well as a Mappemonde of the Eastern and Western hemispheres showing the itinerary of Robinson's journey, engraved by P. F. Tardieu. The three figures by Duvivier are not found in all copiesPrecious copy enriched with a suite before the letter of the 15 figures by Stothart and the first of the 3 figures by Duvivier, as well as 4 plates engraved after the compositions of Clément-Pierre Marillier for the 1787 edition . Volume three also includes a double portrait of the author by Delvaux. A very fine copy bound by David. Some wear to the spines, cold fillet mark on the first cover of the first volume (a mistake of the binder?). Some rare foxing. Provenance: Paul Eudel, with his bookplate.
