[CURIOSA] - GAUTIER (Théophile). Letter to the President. Trip to Italy. 1850. S.l.: Les Perspectives, [ca. 1960]. - In-8, 193 x 145 : 35 pp, (2 ff.), cover with no binding. Pink parma cloth bradel, smooth spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved (modern binding). Dutel 1846*. Published around 1960, edition of 349 copies, of this famous licentious letter by Gautier to the painter, demi-mondaine and salonnière Apollonie Sabatier (1822-1890), called La présidente by her friends. Théophile Gautier maintained a friendly and amorous relationship with her; this pornographic letter, dated Rome, 19 October 1850, bears witness to this. In it, the author describes the itinerary he followed with Cormenin from an inn in Simplon to Rome. Copy on tinted Hollande laid paper, from an edition announced at 35 copies, this one being unnumbered. Unique copy, enriched with two etched music sheets with humorous and erotic illustrations, proposing an extract of the bawdy song De profundis morpionibus, 3 pornographic and humorous unsigned watercolours, a suite of 6 free etchings on japan, engraved on copper in different colours in the 20th century after the compositions of Augustin Carrache, and two very beautiful unsigned free etchings from the beginning of the 20th century, one in black, the other in colours. A very well preserved copy.
