[COMEDIANS]. Precious set of Historical Galleries including the biography of the main actors and actresses of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries: Includes: - MANNE (Edmond-Denis). A historical gallery of the portraits of the actors of Voltaire's troupe. With unpublished biographical details, collected on each of them by E. D. de Manne, Assistant Curator at the Imperial Library. Lyon: N. Scheuring, 1861. - In-8, 208 x 136: portrait, ix, 351 pp. and (1 f.), 40 portraits. Jansenist red morocco, spine ribbed, gilt lace inside, gilt head, untrimmed (period binding). First edition containing 41 biographies of comedians as well as 41 etched portraits by Frédéric Hillemacher, including that of Voltaire in the frontispiece. It also includes an engraved vignette at the head of the foreword. Edition of 250 copies, this one being one of 232 on stained laid paper. A fine copy bound, according to a pencil note at the end, by Cumin. The author of this note mistakenly indicates that it is one of the 18 on Hollande. It is enriched with the prospectus of the second edition of the book, revised by Henri Lefort and published in 1877 . Provenance: monogrammed bookplate. - MANNE (Edmond-Denis).
