First edition published on the occasion of the tercentenary of Molière's birth, offering the biography of the main French comedians since the 17th century, illustrated with 180 black portraits in the text and on full page, reproduced from the original documents. Copy on japanese paper, this one not numbered, enriched with a very nice L.A.S. from Coquelin aîné, author of the preface, of 3 pages in-8, concerning his trip to America, as well as 24 original engravings of some of the comedians studied in the book. It is illustrated with an allegorical frontispiece engraved on steel, presenting in the center a portrait of Adrienne Lecouvreur. Luxurious album published in tribute to the famous actor Constant Coquelin, the year of his death. Prefaced by Edmond Rostand, it includes 30 plates with colour reproductions of paintings showing Coquelin in his main roles. The preface is a poem reproduced in facsimile in Rostand's handwriting. The last plates include Rostand's printed speech delivered at Constant Coquelin's funeral on January 30, 1909, and the reproduction of statuettes, drawings, paintings and various autographs. Each plate is protected by a captioned serpente. Edition of 500 numbered copies (n° 48). Some foxing and soiling to the portfolio, one link missing.
