SET OF 9 ALBUMS OF CIGARETTE LABELS WITH THE EFFIGY OF 1930's CINEMA STARS - The two albums entitled Moderne Schönheits Galerie were published around 1935 by the German cigarette brand Kur Mark . They feature a total of 600 colour portraits of European and American actors and actresses, each in 60 x 50 mm format, presented in a medallion in an attractive embossed frame, each one different. Among the celebrities represented are Lilian Harvey, Marta Eggertg, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Edwige Feuillère, etc. Usual defects to the boards. The corners of the first cover of the first album have been reinforced later with blue paper. The linings of the same album have been redone. Very good condition inside. - The German albums entitled Bunte Filmbilder include 250 black and white photographs of stars for the first one, each one in a colour Art-Deco frame, 275 colour portraits for the second one and 250 black and white portraits for the 1936 one. The first two are albums 2 and 7 from a series whose number is unknown. The last one has no number. The labels included in album 2 are of two different sizes, a large one of 72 x 58 mm, and a small elongated one of 60 x 33 mm. The larger labels could be found in packs of 10 cigarettes, while the smaller ones were in packs of 4. The 275 portraits in the other album are in the same format of 62 x 52 mm. They each have a gold border. The 1936 album has portraits in two different sizes, 72 x 57 and 60 x 32 mm, and 3 film stills outside the text. The stars represented are international, but there is a majority of German personalities. The spine and covers of album 7 are discoloured. The Constantin and Salem albums were made on the same model, each one including 4 colour plates reproducing 4 scenes from films of the 30s. The first one includes 270 colour photographs of international stars, 60 x 40 mm, glued in a black striped frame on 35 pages. The second has 180 colour photographs of international stars, in the same format as those in the Constantin album and pasted into identical frames but in brown, spread over 23 pages. Copies very well preserved. - The 2 other albums, entitled An album of film stars, were published at the same time as the previous ones by the English cigarette brand John Player & sons. They contain a total of 100 portraits of film actors and actresses, 50 per album, in an elongated format of 68 x 36 mm, glued in an orange printed frame. Each portrait includes a short biography of the star pictured. There are Richard Allen, George Arliss, Warner Baxter, Joan Bennett, Madeleine Carrol, Gary Cooper, Bette Davis, Marlene Dietrich, Clark Gable, Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn, John Boles, Maurice Chevalier, Gary Grant, etc. Covers dusty and spotted in places.
