BRUANT (Aristide). The Mirliton. Paris, October 1, 1885-April 1906. - 194 issues of which 122 in an in-8 volume, 272 x 185 and 72 in an in-folio volume, 382 x 285. Dark blue half-chagrin, smooth spine, untrimmed (Ateliers Laurenchet for the in-8 volume). Very rare complete collection of this magazine directed by Aristide Bruant, "organ of lyric artists and songwriters". The publication was divided into 3 series. The first one appeared in in-8 format and includes 100 issues published between October 1, 1885 and March 10, 1893. The second, in folio format, includes issues 101 to 142 published between 17 March 1893 and 29 December of the same year, as well as issues 1 to 30 published in 1894 between 5 January and 1 October. The third and last series was printed in the same format as the first and consists of 22 issues published irregularly between 15 November 1894 and April 1906. Alongside the songs of Aristide Bruant, there were texts by Courteline, Alphonse Allais, Auriol, Jehan Rictus, etc. From November 1892 onwards, Le Mirliton became "an organ of café-concerts", giving reports on both French and foreign shows. Each issue, comprising 4 to 8 pages, is illustrated with a composition in colour or in black, mostly by Steinlen, sometimes under the pseudonym of Jean Caillou, but also by Toulouse-Lautrec, alias Tréclau, V. Ber, Henri-Gabriel Ibels, etc. Enriched copy of issues 348 and 349 of the review Les Hommes d'Aujourd'hui, respectively devoted to Aristide Bruant and Steinlen, illustrated with 6 compositions by the latter, including a self-portrait signed with his pseudonym Jean Caillou, as well as two issues of the Collectionneur français devoted to the Mirliton. Tears and restorations to the first leaf of the first issue. Tears repaired to the two issues of Hommes d'Aujourd'hui. Provenance: GC Library, with bookplate in the folio volume.
