Japan, 19th century, netsuke in lacquer, horn and shagreen, in the style of Ritsuo, representing a fish, one side of which, black lacquered, is decorated with aquatic plants in mother-of-pearl inlays and takamaki-e of gold and polychrome lacquer, the other side, in imitation of the fish's skin, enhanced with horn for the head and tail.
