Arsène HURTREL (1817-1861). Portrait of a mother and her child of the Rémy family on a landscape background, December 30, 1853. Oil on canvas signed, dated and dedicated "to my friend Ene [Eugène] Cannissié? "on the lower left corner. 92 x 73 cm. Beautiful wood and stucco frame. Provenance: family of the models, by inheritance. Rémy family: patrician family from Lille, sugar merchants and industrialists, allied with the great industrial families of Northern France. Arsène-Charles-Narcisse HURTREL, born in Lille on June 25, 1817, died on December 1, 1861 in the same city. After working in Armentières and Lille, he lived in Paris in 1834 and was a pupil of Ingres, whom he accompanied to Rome in 1835, where he remained until 1840. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1841 to 1861. Active in the field of portraiture and history painting. Works of the artist are kept in the museums of Douai, Lille and Tourcoing
