Description

K.P.C. De Bazel (Den Helder 1869 - 1923 Amsterdam), An (8) piece set of Art Deco egg cups & matching salt cellar, Leerdam, Holland, ca. 1920.

By: Koninklijke Glasfabriek Leerdam, purple pressed glass in decagonal shape, all marked in relief underneath with monogram of the designer. Various minor damages. Compare: Collection Boijmans van Beunngen museum Rotterdam, inv. nr.: V 20 r (KN&V) (salt cellarette). Note: Pressed glass produced between 1920 and 1945 is known as 'depression glass' in the United States. This production technique was often applied during the Great Depression of the 1920's up to the WWII. In these years the first washing machines were sold, creating a need for laundry detergent. Companies that offered this often advertised with the message that the packages also included pressed glass items, thus offering potential clients an opportunity to collect beautiful design objects. Also in Europe this sales trick was implemented.
