AUSTRALIA, AUTOMOBILIA Race driver's scarf awarded to Fred Bray, made of silk moire, with gilt brass fringe, embroidered with the inscription 'VICTORIAN JUNIOR CAR CLUB - GRASS TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP OF VICTORIA 1932 - FRED. BRAY BALLOT 8. Fred Bray was born on 6 December 1899 in Frankston, Australia, and died on 9 September 1972 in Swindon, England. He participated in WWII in the 2nd regiment of air force mechanics (Nr 1729). Posted to Marcinelle, Belgium, until 1919, he pursued a military career during WWII as a lieutenant (QX57617) of civil military forces from 19 August 1940 until 19 June 1944, and then as Captain of the Redbank Australian imperial force from 20 June 1944 to 4 June 1946. He pursued a non-military career as an auto mechanic and became a race driver in 1929. In August of 1933, he became the Australian champion of hillclimbing in a Leggett Ballot 8. In 1951, he married Marie Godeau, the first female paramedic in Belgium. She was the daughter of Fernand Godeau who was the distributor of Minerva automobiles in Ghent, Belgium, and won the first standardized auto Grand Prix in Belgium in 1912. Some stains, good condition.
