Description

A PAIR OF HORSE HORN APPLIQUES Louis XVI period, circa 1775-1785, gilt bronze with mercury leaf H. 64 cm, W. 37.5 cm, D. 22 cm Provenance Former personal collection Jean WANECQ Private collection, Paris This pair of sconces with a ribbon tied in quatrefoil and finished with passementerie tassels holds in its center an oak branch and three hunting horns forming light arms. Our bronzier seems to have been inspired for this creation by a model drawn by Jean-Jacques Bachelier, who had multiplied the oak leaves and added flutes or pipes in the manner of an instrument trophy (fig. 1). Closer to our pair, and even more sober, are the sconces of the Pavlovsk Palace (fig. 2) Additional information given by the collector is available by QR Code in the PDF. Collector's information sheet updated with the results of the analysis of the brass according to the Heginbotham protocol
