The frame has a very nice herringbone frieze of satinwood and satinwood sapwood framing cartouches in violet wood, highlighted by the molded cornice in amaranth and by the curved shapes of the belt and the four legs trimmed with gilded bronzes. Our game table is part of the period between 1735 and 1760 of a strong craze for "trictrac ... with white and green ivory checkers" that can be found in the diary books of the most important merchant and cabinetmakers of the capital as well as in the one of the Grade-Meuble du roi. Another example, from the Wrightsman collection, has the same veneer in violet and satinwood (fig. 1); it is stamped J. Dubois. Ours is distinguished by its elegant double brace belt, which can be found on the flat desks of the same cabinetmaker Jacques Dubois or, for example, on the chest of drawers from the same collector and presented at the sale here. Jacques Dubois had been received Master in 1742. Additional information given by the collector is accessible by QR Code in the PDF.
