LOUIS XIV period console table, circa 1710-1715 Carved and gilded limewood Restoration and maintenance, gilded with 22-carat leaf H. 33.5 cm, W. 40 cm, D. 18.5 cm Provenance Former private collection, Loiret Galerie Théorème, Paris, 2011 Private collection, Paris This rare wall bracket, in carved and gilded limewood, has an elegant top supported by an openwork base. The shape of the tray with its central projection, flanked by two recessed wings, is inspired by the architecture of royal castles. The cornice is underlined by a gadrooned frieze. The underside is decorated with a reticulated field of starry flowers. The support, stamped with a central mascaron, is animated by a subtle play of curves and counter-curves. The full, smiling face of a woman wearing a plume of feathers stands out in high relief amidst scrolls, garlands, strings of pearls, grains and fruit.
