BURNER-PARFUM supported by a Buddhist deity Japan, 19th century Chased, patinated and gilded bronze H. 73 cm, D. 36 cm Inscription in Chinese characters on the back of the figure This large incense burner decorated with dragons is topped by a lid topped by a Fô dog, guardian of the Buddhist temples. The L-shaped handles are finely chiseled and gilded. A deity or a fierce-looking spirit is holding it up in the air. He wears a conical jewel as a diadem. His costume is decorated with flying phoenixes. The muscular tension of the arms and the twirling folds of the drapery with a dark brown patina and gold highlights give vigour to our object. Here, the barking dog puts the paste on an openwork sphere.
