Description
MIRROR German work, late 18th - 19th century Gilt bronze and mirror H. 160 cm, L. 79 cm This beautiful mirror with its curved shape offers an exuberant decoration of jagged and moving foliage of great richness of execution. It is in Germany that the vogue of the galleries and cabinets of ice knew the greatest success. Woodwork, mirrors and consoles were decorated with luxurious and elaborate ornamentation drawn from the rocaille repertoire, as in Nymphenburg, Ansbach, Ludwigsburg or Sanssouci, for which Johann Michael Hoppenhaupt II (1709 - 161) created the interior decorations (fig. 1). Our mirror is a counterpart to the one exhibited by the Maurice Ségoura Gallery at the 2006 Biennale des Antiquaires.
